10/4/2012: New Normal for Gay TV

A new season of tv is on the airwaves with a number of new gay roles. So how are gay characters changing the landscape on the boob tube?

With shows starring gay characters, like NBC’s the New Normal and CBS’s the Partners as well as mainstays such as Modern Family and RuPaul’s Drag Race, and, of course, shows that have gay sensibilities like Glee, Real Housewives and 666 Park Avenue, it seems we may be hitting a new era of how gays are portrayed and fought over for viewership in millions of households each night.

So how has gay tv and gays on tv changed over the past few decades? Friday, we will discuss the evolution of being gay on tv–from In Living Color’s Blaine Edwards and Antoine Merriweather to Ellen to Will & Grace to the New Normal. Come bring your gay tv wonkiness for a fruitful discussion tomorrow night!

As always, we will be meeting at St. Margaret’s Church at 8:30 pm for discussion and then dinner/drinks and more getting-to-know each other better afterward.
