We had a great time on Friday!  Gay District (GD) would like to thank everyone who attended the discussion about “Gay Pride…Brought to you by Visa” on May 17th. What did you boys think of the SanFran Gay Pride dropping the well known Bradley Manning of Wikilinks fame as Grand Marshall? You boys had a LOT to say and feel free to share continue the GD conversation on the Facebook Page.  If any other GD participants are interested in facilitating a group discussion on a topic of their own choosing, contact your facilitators, Justin, Jay or Luke through GD@GayDistrict.Org or just reply to the e-mail here-in. Want to suggest a conversation but don’t want the hassle of leading it? Share Away!
Don’t forget, our next GD discussion group is at 8:30pm on Friday June 7th at The DC Center for the LGBT Community, 1318 U Street NW.  Look out for more GD announcements of upcoming events in your inbox (if you haven’t found your way to our GD GoogleGroup join us!) or on the GD Facebook Page

Speaking of Pride and Money…what have YOU done today to make you feel proud? I hope part of that will be enjoying a great show June 1st & 2nd by making it out to see GMCW at our spring show, “Seven” happening at Lisner Auditorium

Gay Pride…Brought to you by Visa?

Gay pride has grown to be an expensive affair. While the parade is free, the partying can cost you. Buzzfeed captured some of the expensive events happening across the country.

Are these something to be wary of? How different is it from a straight party? Or has the pride parade morphed from a protest of “homosexuals” into a corporate affair. Will you be going to any of the parties in DC?

The San Francisco pride parade dropped Bradley Manning, currently on trial for leaking classified information to Wikileaks, from its Grand Marshals after gay military groups protested. Would this have happened in the post-Vietnam 70s?

We’ll discuss this and more at Gay District at 8:30pm, at the DC Center at 1318 U Street. Afterwards, we’ll head out to an establishment to eat.

May 3rd: Dealbreakers: Non-starters, Strikes, Turn-offs, Pet Peeves, Preferences, & Requirements

Dealbreakers: Non-starters, Strikes, Turn-offs, Pet Peeves, Preferences, & Requirements

If there is somebody for everybody, who are the people who are definitely NOT for you?  Whether considering romantic relationships, sexual compatibility, or platonic friendships, sometimes what once seemed promising is ruined by a DEALBREAKER.  What is a dealbraker for you?  Physical traits?  Annoying habits?  Is it something specific such as someone’s taste in music?

Think about what things are important for you to know before pursuing a relationship, friendship, or sexual liaison with someone.  How do you ascertain this information? What things have you learned the hard way not to assume and to find out ASAP?

Some of your dealbreakers are likely LGBT specific.  Some are surely particular to men.  Which of these cause you the most frustration?  Do you have internet-specific dealbreakers?  What issues of socializing, sexuality, health, hygiene, grooming, intellect, technology, transportation, communication, etc. should “go without saying” but (obviously) don’t?

Bring your list of dealbreakers, non-starters, strikes, turn-offs, pet peeves, preferences,& requirements to the May 3, 2013, meeting of Gay District – with special guest facilitator Zar – 8:30pm at the DC Center, 1318 U Street NW.
