01/03/2014 – “That’s So Gay!” (Or Is It?): Exploring the Concept of “Homonormativity”

Has the LGBT community created a construct of “Homonormativity”?  Have men who are gay, bisexual, pansexual, same-gender-loving, or otherwise same-sex oriented collectively constructed a new “normal”?  Are we comfortable with the media stereotype of affluent white male couples? Have we escaped the confines of heteronormativity only to create our own boxes?  Do you reject these limitations or do you… submit?

Special guest co-facilitators Taylor Monson and Zar will lead a discussion on the ways that expectations, perceptions, assumptions, requirements, rules, and roles affect our gender identities and sexual behaviors.  From power dynamics in dating and courtship to marriage and domestic life to… well, sex.  There will be plenty of discussion about sex when we explore the gay “normal”!

Join us Friday, January 3, 2014 at 8:30pm.  We meet at The DC Center, now located inside the Reeves Center Municipal Building at the corner of 14th and U Streets, NW (Address: 2000 14th Street NW, Suite 105, Washington, DC 20009). 12/06/2013 – “Blow Your Load: A Bitch-Fest!”

With Thanksgiving over, Christmas on its way, and 2014 right around the corner, we thought what better way to reflect on the year than with a big, old-fashioned Bitch-fest!  It can get pretty annoying and overwhelming with all of the holiday parties, rushing around, and agonizing over gifts for family and friends, so this Friday is a chance to gather together and let off some steam….verbally.
What bothers you the most about the holiday season?  With our minds still on World AIDS day last Sunday, what can we do more in the fight against HIV/AIDS?  What’s one thing you could change about the year 2013?  What grinds your gears about the straight community?  The gay community?  The activist community?  WHY WON’T THAT GUY CALL ME FOR A SECOND DATE? Why Won’t Nance stop being a BITCH?!
Come discuss all of these topics and more Friday, December 6th @8:30pm at The DC Center, now located in the Reeves building at 14th & U NW. We will likely go to dinner afterwards; we also invite you join us at Tropicalia (ETA 11pm) for light dancing and heavy drinks. See you there!FYI: Tropicalia has FREE admission after 10pm. ID required, 21+
