01/03/2014 – “That’s So Gay!” (Or Is It?): Exploring the Concept of “Homonormativity”

Has the LGBT community created a construct of “Homonormativity”?  Have men who are gay, bisexual, pansexual, same-gender-loving, or otherwise same-sex oriented collectively constructed a new “normal”?  Are we comfortable with the media stereotype of affluent white male couples? Have we escaped the confines of heteronormativity only to create our own boxes?  Do you reject these limitations or do you… submit?

Special guest co-facilitators Taylor Monson and Zar will lead a discussion on the ways that expectations, perceptions, assumptions, requirements, rules, and roles affect our gender identities and sexual behaviors.  From power dynamics in dating and courtship to marriage and domestic life to… well, sex.  There will be plenty of discussion about sex when we explore the gay “normal”!

Join us Friday, January 3, 2014 at 8:30pm.  We meet at The DC Center, now located inside the Reeves Center Municipal Building at the corner of 14th and U Streets, NW (Address: 2000 14th Street NW, Suite 105, Washington, DC 20009).
