Gays do not just live in Manhattan or Dupont Circle or West Hollywood. LGBT life has always been broader, but sometimes less visible. To paraphrase Barack Obama’s 2004 convention speech, we have gay friends in the red states. And small towns have gay bars, which are different than a Saturday night at Town.

Have you been a part of rural gay life? How did it change when you came to the DC area? Do you think small-town gay bars have advantages over their city counterparts? Do you think the Internet has made it easier for gay people in rural areas? Would you move to a rural area?

We’ll discuss these questions and more at the DC Center at 1400 U St NW on Friday, beginning at 8:30 P.M. Afterwards, we’ll head to a local establishment for dinner or maybe even a big city gay bar.

If you need help entering the building, please don’t hesitate to call me at (617) 877-5484

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with some .gifs.
