Friday’s Discussion: Smartphone Bling

Self #XXI

Six or seven years ago, if you told friends or family that you met your significant other on a smartphone dating app, they might be like WHOA YOU DID WHAT? Now, it is so common, we don’t even blink.
It seems apps are the most common way to meet people for everything from hookups to long-term dating. There is no longer only Grindr, but Hornet, Tinder, Hinge, Scruff, and many, many others.
Is this a good thing? Is it now gauche to meet someone in person? Does it make people judge excessively on appearance, weight, and race? What are strategies you have to use these, and pitfalls you have run into? And who should you AVOID?
We will discuss these questions and more at Gay District starting at 8:30.
Gay District meets at The DC Center, located inside the Reeves building at 2000 14th Street NW Washington, DC 20009.  Attendees will need to enter the Reeves building via the “Exit” doors on 14th Street, facing McDonald’s. We encourage attendees to bring their photo ID to gain access inside the building. If you do not have or are unable to present a photo ID, please contact the DC Center at (202) 682-2245.
