07/15/2016 – ” U.N.I.T.Y at the Y.M.C.A: Social Safe Spaces for LGBT Community and its demise.”

In recent years the LGBT community has made amazing strides for inclusiveness and civil rights. These movements and rights are important so that the community can be seen as equal to our cisgender and straight counterparts. But, what has this done to our LGBT safe spaces and places of community? How has the mainstreaming of the LGBT community affected gay specific spaces and why? What has the gay community lost (or gained) from this? Does this make it harder to get involved in the gay community? What do you think will happen if this trend continues? Do you think this hurts more marginalized LGBT people? Join us for our facilitated discussion this Friday, July 15th at 8:30pm!

Gay District meets at The DC Center, located inside the Reeves building at 2000 14th Street NW Washington, DC 20009.  Attendees will need to enter the Reeves building via the “Exit” doors on 14th Street, facing McDonald’s. We encourage attendees to bring their photo ID to gain access inside the building. If you do not have or are unable to present a photo ID, please contact the DC Center at (202) 682-2245.
