06/20/2014 – “Have Your (Beef)Cake and Eat It Too!!” Monogamy and the Gay Relationship

Mens

...Or, “If Two’s Company; Are Three’s Allowed?”

With right-wing conservative family first organization’s shouting from the roof tops that LGBT couples are ruining the sanctity of marriage and (some) in the same breathe classifying Gays as promiscuous… Things can get pretty confusing… What’s a boy to do?!

This Fridays we will discuss the many faces of LGBT relationships and how they may or may not work for you.. Do you believe that your heart is solely for your partner and your body is open for anonymous affection? Have you and your partner come to an understanding of keeping the bedroom open, or do you feel monogamy is the way to be?  How can a relationship progress when your ideas of monogamy differ? What keeps two people in an open relationship together instead of drifting apart? Can you consider your relationship monogamous if you have guest appearances in the bedroom? Do you feel that its biologically unnatural for men to be monogamous or do you just want to settle down in 2.5 kids bliss?

Join us this Friday and share your insight, opinion and experiences to try and answer some of these questions! After group we will gather round the table for food and continue our conversations. After dinner we will see what trouble we can get ourselves into!

Remember, Gay District meets at The DC Center, located inside the Reeves DC government building. Attendees will need to enter the Reeves building via the “Exit” doors on 14th Street, facing McDonald’s. We encourage attendees to bring their photo ID to gain access inside the building. If you do not have or are unable to present a photo ID, please contact me ahead of time by email or The DC Center’s Executive Director David Mariner.

04/04/14: Spring time for GD and Washington!

It looks like old man winter has finally exited to let spring take center stage. And with this season comes boys baring more skin! To celebrate their arrival–the spring or skin, your pick–we’re going to celebrate by dishing about our favorite parts of the season and the boys we love.

Come ready to chat about why you enjoy spring time: Your favorite bar patios to happy hour with friends and work colleagues. Your favorite outdoor dates spots. Your favorite spring colors. Your favorite holidays. And, of course, your favorite boys of the season!

Join us at our normal time of 8:30 pm this Friday at the DC Center. As always, we will go out together afterward for drinks or dinner. See you Friday!

Your facilitator this week,
Jay

07/12/2013 – GD Outing: Jazz in the Sculpture Garden

This upcoming Friday is not our regularly scheduled discussion, but since summer is in full force (hot summer days and nights, even hotter boys in short shorts, and frequent outdoor happy hours), Gay District will be taking advantage and doing a summer social at Jazz in the Sculpture Garden near the Smithsonian museums. It’ll be a fun way to soak in the last bit of sun for the day, unwind after a week back at work, and listen to good music.
So come join us for a relaxing evening outside! Meeting details below:

What: Gay District at Jazz in the Sculpture Garden
When: Friday, July 12 from 6:30-8:30
Where: National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden located on corner of 7th and Constitution Ave, NW (closest Metro stops are Archives and Smithsonian). Look for Jay and other gay boys with the Gay District signage.

After the jazz, we can continue our conversations over food and drinks at a place in Gallery Place. Can’t wait to see you all there!  Please check back for a Friday update as the event may be cancelled due to weather.

04/19/2013 – “Can You…Feel A…Brand New DAY!” – New Beginnings

Hey Boys!

I know it feels like it’s been FOREVER since we last met up but here we are…3rd Friday in the month so it’s time for our facilitated discussion! This week we will talk about beginnings and how being in a new place is an opportunity for a fresh start. Let’s talk about our experiences moving to DC or a new apartment home, new relationships, jobs etc.and what we’ve learned (or didn’t learn) from these experiences.  We also want to hear your thoughts about our new digs (The DC Center – 1318 U Street, NW) and all your ideas for topics, activities, and volunteer opportunities now that we’ve moved our location and are making changes to our format.

Remember Boys, discussion starts at 8:30pm and our new home is The DC Center – 1318 U Street, NW. You’ll be able to spot us as the entrance with the rainbow ribbons!

See you out tonight!
