We’ll discuss this rather disturbing development out of our neighbor to the south. But also want to broaden it and discuss whether you’ve been ever rejected for anything for based on sexual orientation at work or elsewhere and strategies to deal with it.

Well, well, well, it finally happened (again!).  Sixteen years after Obama originally endorsed same-sex marriage (in a questionnaire when he was running for Illinois state legislature), Obama re-affirmed his support….as President of the United States.  There are many in the LGBT community who welcome the news, but some reactions are more measured.  How will this help increase the number of couples who are able to legally marry?  Should same-sex marriage be the forefront of LGBT issues, or should it take a backseat to protection from employer discrimination or bullying laws?  Does the President hurt his chances in re-election because of this endorsement? Let’s discuss…

Who’s Johnny? Well, he started off as my first gay crush. Then we fooled around a bit… well a lot. Sort of like FBs! After a while, though, it got old. Yet, we had a lot in common, so we became BFs. Now, I find myself still attracted to him… just a little. I wonder if we could have a BFF thing?

Discussion for Friday the 13th will have two parts. The first we will share gay horror stories–whether you have a real-life story of a bad date gone really creepy, heard about an unlucky incident that happened to a friend of a friend, or a poor, unfortunate gay soul you’ve read about or seen on TV or in a movie.

The second half of the evening we will collectively make up the gayest terrible, horrible, no good, very bad Friday the 13th our imaginations can dream up to exorcise any possibilities those things could happen to us by night’s end.

Of course, we will go out afterward to eat & drink together to end what should be a very happy Friday the 13th. Discussion starts at 8 pm at St. Margaret’s Church in Dupont as always. Until then, mind ladders and black cats!

With Youth Pride 2012 just a few short weeks away I got to thinking, “What is it that the gay youth of today will inherit from us, their gay elders?” Are we responsible to teach them the ways of safety in cruising? Is the history of Dupont Circle that is slowly being lost important for those up and coming Gay-bies to know? What influence can/do we have in insuring the next set of young LGBT activists have the support and knowledge that they need in order to continue to create change when we are too busy changing diapers (whether they are our children’s or our own)? More importantly how can you as an individual leave an LGBT legacy for others to strive or admire? Whether it’s being the queen of the social scene or the poz life advocate and educator. Whether the knowledge you pass is to be safe with your heart as well as your body, how will you want to leave it and who do you want to give it to? How much knowledge and strength have we gained or lost due to the generation who lost their fight in the early epidemic of HIV/AIDS?

This Friday let’s sit and discuss how we want the next generation (Generation Fab!) to succeed and how we whether want to have a hand in helping them do it.

This Friday, those in attendance of Gay Districts weekly facilitated discussion will help us decide the topic  from the two options listed below!

Houseboys, Rent-boys, Gay for Pay and on call sex workers. We will discuss the facts and myths for all thing associated with Sex, inc.! What is “Sex Positive” and how does it pertain to the world of sex workers? Where are the lines of legality blurred and when/where are they broken? Would you ever offer yourself up given the opportunity, have you already? Everyone has a price; what is yours?

With the recent acts of violence against two gay men in two separate encounters over this past weekend how does one maintain their feeling of safety in the city they live in? More importantly how do we respond to these horrendous attacks? Can we comfort and reach out to those assaulted? Can we stand together in a singular voice or an outcry that we will NOT accept this? Where do we go from here and how does this news impact you and those in your circle of friends?

As usual our discussion will start at 8:30pm at St. Margaret’s Episcopalian Church, 1830 Connecticut Avenue, NW. Afterwards we will head out to dinner at a local establishment and perhaps a drink or two to get our livers ready for St. Patrick’s Day!

Jacket-free weather is here, and with it will soon come an explosion of social occasions and warmer-weather pastimes. We’ll now feel the allure of vacations, sporting events, rooftop happy hours, and an increased interest in all activities available year-round, simply because you won’t freeze your harbles off getting there.

With the limited budgets many of us are working with, or perhaps the simple desire to spend wisely, regardless of income, how can you “have it all” on the cheap? Come share advice on destinations, events, and deals appropriate for the cost-conscious homo. Tell us about the happy hour where $2 can put you in the hospital, the discount bus fare to Rehoboth–so long as you don’t mind going with a 50′s-and-up LGBT nudist group, and so forth.

There have been a proliferation of new gay (stereo)types lately–from otters to pups to chasers. You can see one type on YouTube with the Disappointing Gay video series. Even our straight male allies that mask their heterosexuality in stylish clothes have changed types from metrosexuals to hipsters.

So this week we will deconstruct all of these old and new types to see what it all means. Will knowing what kind of gay I am help me find my matching type? Are there really more otters at DC Eagle than Town? And is matching types ever that easy?

Check out this Gay Cliques Census survey that was created to shed some light on the demographics of the gay community and discover what cliques are actually in use (e.g. Bears, Cubs, etc.), the relationship between cliques and attraction to other cliques, how tops/bottoms range between groups, and what the geographic differences are between cliques. We will use some of this to jumpstart our discussion.

This week, as Valentine’s Day/Singles Awareness Day approaches and we all assess our dating lives to date, why not take a few moments to embrace what’s wrong with our approaches to dating, relationships, and love–and how truly hilarious our faults can be? If you’re single, tell us all about how terrible you are at apologizing, how you can’t stop power-belching to save your life, or how clingy you were in your last relationship. Not single? No problem! Share how truly grateful you are that your partner hasn’t commented on your thunderous sleep-farts, the fact that you never clean the bathroom, or your inability to fill up the ice trays once they’ve been emptied.. for several weeks.

Come one, come all–but leave your hang-ups and self-confidence at home. This is all about laughing at our mistakes regardless of our inability to stop making them. As always, we’ll be meeting at St. Margaret’s (1830 Connecticut Ave) via the Parish Office Door at 8:30 on Friday. Afterwards we’ll head across the circle to Bread and Brew to see what their ever-changing menu will have to offer in their cozy downstairs bar.
